What is this place?
Papirothèque
The name comes from my online nickname "Papiro", and I thought I can make sort of a pun with Bibliothèque and my name, since I want to make this website about collecting resources and sharing them freely. Like a public library with a personal touch.
Current me
As of lately, I dedicate my time to study cross-platform app development (currently learning Java and Python) and tinkering with web development with 11ty in Neocities.
I also work part-time as a teacher, though it takes me a bit more time to prepare everything :) I can say that, even though teaching is my vocation, doing it full time might be a little too much for me. So I'm looking forward to the day I can have a regular job and still be able to teach in my free time.
Being a designer, I love creating and I try to do it as much as I can, though I haven't had the chance to do it much recently.
AI, web3, socials & the world
I don't completely reject the use of AI, but I think EVERYONE shold have to study the full-impact, background and theory about it before being allowed to use it extensively.
I see almost everyone just asking the AI of choice to do their work, their thinking, and I can't help but to feel quite alienated from that.
My usage of AI is limited to learning about the technology and its evolution, self-teaching, and preparing my lectures. I have taken part in multiple courses about AI and find it a useful tool, but I also find it shouldn't be abused, and we should also be environmentally conscious and responsible when using it.
Most genAI is trained UNETHICALLY, without consent from the people whose data was stolen, and that is absolutely reprehensible.
So, even if for my work, studies and learning I use it, I try to be as responsible as possible and be aware of the impact of my actions.
The same goes for social media, web3 and the digital world in general nowadays. I use some of these services, while at the same time rejecting the idea of being part of it. It's a dichotomy I find myself in. And I guess some of you reading as well. I love new technologies, I want to be part of this world, and I feel like many things would have to change for me to fully embrace it.
Neocities seems like the perfect place to start blogging again and getting to know and experience all your cool sites. I missed going through handcrafted pages and this beautiful rendition to the old web has brought that back for me.
Above all this... I'm so happy to finally be making my website!
The template
I took Itinerae's "I am sleepy" template and edited it. Then I adapted it to fit Kate Bagenzo's Strawberry Starter for 11ty. I use it for my Portfolio as well!
